Many hands make light work of planting

1 July 2014

Over 100 people were welcomed onto Poutu Marae on Sunday June 29 for the final planting in an iwi-led project to plant 1,300 natives alongside the Manawatu River.

Helpers from Shannon School, Horowhenua District Council, Horizons Regional Council, Save Our River Trust and the wider community all dug in to plant the native plants near the Manawatu River's confluence with the Tokomaru River. The project was one of a number to receive funding from Central Government's Fresh Start for Freshwater Clean-Up Fund under the Manawatu River Leaders' Accord community grants programme.
